The way I've heard the term use, is a page where you introduce the character of a comic to a potential syndicate employer. They can be in different formats depending on the needs of the syndicate. The format I'm referring to here, is when you have several pictures of the character with different facial expressions, situations, and reactions. Come to think of it, you've kinda got a splash page for your character's sense of fashion, here.
